Project Sanbo

Project Sanbo is an unofficial mod for Mario Kart Wii that provides much new content to the old entry to the series. With 128 brand new tracks, new game modes and many smaller modifications, Project Sanbo aims to bring ongoing innovation to the game to keep it interesting for the most competitive and casual players, and everything in-between.

Many of the well-known features of other Mario Kart Wii mods have been included and refined where possible, such as:

  • A dedicated channel - the channel is the gateway to the modified game itself. It provides a layer of security against cheaters, an automatic updater so you will always have the latest version and various options to change the game to your liking.
  • Expanded cup selection screen - the new cup selection screen displays up to 16. cups at once, all grouped by the type of their tracks. The new screen allows you to quickly find the cup that contains a track you like.
  • My Stuff folder - add your own custom tracks, characters and music to the game without having to worry about replacing files. Up to three different folders can be configured in the Project Sanbo Channel.
  • Online Time Trials - initially developed in collaboration with the Project Sanbo team, the innovative game mode makes its debut in a large distribution, with a number of improvements throughout the mod to enhance the user experience, such as a dedicated character selection screen between races.
  • Host always wins - to keep organisation of fun rooms with a predefined track selection simple, a host can opt to make their vote the winning vote.

Project Sanbo also introduces several brand-new features:

  • In-game flags - rather than showing how many stars a specific player has, the game now shows you the country a player has picked in their Wii settings
  • Special room item modes - introduced in Mario Kart 8, but now also available to Project Sanbo players. Ever wanted to play with only bombs, shells, mushrooms or just without thunder cloud? It's now all possible. Also contains altered distributions aimed to improve competitive play.
  • Mushroom car - the first of hopefully many custom objects. This nice car is featured on two tracks and acts just like its counterpart from Mario Kart Double Dash.
